I got three coats of T-bird sprayed on my original bow for the swap.  Just going to roll with it.  It finished out 5 pounds under after finish sanding.

Good lookig bows! John that bow looks good at full draw.
Today I narrowed down my wood choices to solid Bolivian rosewood , solid canary wood, or something with lots of red...

I guess all I did today was take zebra wood out of the mix becaue there is a few zebra bows going on already.

Anyone  els think the hardest part of this thing is choosing the wood?

Ran a couple test pieces through my new sander today.  I think she's gonna work great.  Just need to figure out how to set up the shop vac on her - she makes a ton of dust!

Also got some poster board templates cut out for some pretty curves for the spliced veneers and the riser accent.  Got all the woods I'm gonna use too, and the core lams and glass from Kenny (thanks again!!).

Still need to finish those pesky knives first, then I can start working on the bows.  Hopefully I'll be going on it within a couple weeks.  Haven't seen a lot from my victim, so hopefully he/she's not in too much of a hurry!

Looking good everyone.  I spent some time researching my recipient and started about three days after the names came out.  I'm working on something I've not done before but have always wanted to dabble with.  Been slowly tinkering with it and it's coming along nicely.

Again, good work, all!   :)

Been working on another cherry stave. I have 5 or 6 bows i"m working on at the moment and not sure which I will use. Probably the best one, if I don't get jealous and keep it myself.  :)

It is 63"ttt and nearly 2" wide with 4" handle and 2" fades. String tracks nicely down the middle and it has about 1" of natural reflex. Is cut in pyramid style and I will probably flip the tips a little and give it some rawhide backing.

Got my bow finish sanded today.  Set it up and shot it some.  Shot great.  Got ready to weigh it.  Strung it up, pulled it back and "crack".  Unstrung it to check and here is what I found.  High lited with marker.  Never had this happen before.  Does anyone see something I did wrong?  Oh well, better than a limb.

Al, I sorry that happened to ya. I had something like that happen to me once, the crack I got came near the same spot but ran across the shelf. My problem was I made the riser and shelf are too small , but yours looks like it had plenty of wood, possibly it could be a defect in the wood. Once again sorry it broke because it was looking great. BTW what kind of wood ya working with?

Al wow that stinks, like you said at least it wasnt the limbs. I was also wondering on the wood species looks a bit like bubinga between oak. Looks like there should be enough material but the riser must have been flexing a bit. Well it didnt totally come apart and snack ya in the head, that doesnt feel good, speaking from experience. Good luck on the next one.

I'm trying to get an earlier start this year and so it's out to the wood stash even though the garage is freezing!  I decided to go with a three inch osage sucker that I cut about 12 years back in Indiana.  It should be good and dry at this point.   :)
