new/old frankenrecurve PICS ADDED

so, i told my wife i wan't to get a recurve to try out for bird/rabbit hunting in thick brush. well she decided to go with my bro-in-law and get me one. they went to a pawn shop and bought a $100 recurve. she gave it to me today and well.....lol...it's 2 bows frankened together.        

limbs are a pair of 46# 66" checkmate recurve limbs that look like the bottom one might have a twist to it. hmmm

riser is a what looks and feels like magnesium and has a ugly plastic grip with "pse" on it.

limb pockets and limbs don't match up for cr@p. there is leather in the sides to help track but i can move them around. whole thing together measures out at 67" and 51# at 28.

the riser is ugly as hell. any way to take the twist out of the limbs? how hard would it be to build a recurve riser for it? was thing of a solid piece on nice wood for it. has white glass over wood lambs. looks like walnut wedges and tip overlays. would like to do something with it.  

my wonderfull wife spent days and hours trying to find one for me, and i think my reaction wasn't what she hoped for.     :eek:

It does sound like a warf job. Lets see some pics?

You can take the twist out. You just tiller it like you would a recurve glass bow by taking a little off the side the tip points to.
You can make a riser too. Go to binghams and look up their take down recurve plans. That's a good place to start if you haven't built one before.

What you have there is a vintage pse Lazer Magnum. Like this only blue:

 


As you can see it started as a compound and someone retrofitted it as a recurve. Kinda gives a second meaning to your signature!

Oh, and that one isn't mine, I just found a pic of one online.

well i got the limbs straightened out useing the hot water method and took it out to shoot. damn it's cold out right now and snow blowing around. shoots pretty good but damn it's heavy. 30 shots and my bow arm got tired. think i might see about building a wood riser for it.

Yeah, the weight is an issue on the older compound risers. I have an old Bear Whitetail II compound that I am thinking of converting, but just the riser is somewhere along the order of 6#! If you can get use to the weight though it is a rock steady shooter with no bump at all. Just my 2¢. Either way have fun with it, and be thankful you have a wife that supports your addiction like I have.

Sell it for $50 and buy a samick sage for $130. Best money you can spend. Great starter bow.

Slo-Mo, I also have a whitetail II and have been told its no good for warfing (ILF) but would be good for a staight conversion with standard bolt on limbs. I would just like to make it a recurve somehow. If you do it, post it please. I would be very interested!
