Where can I find............
« on: January 11, 2013, 03:37:00 PM »
Hey I had a dream about a new bow, it was all fruitwood. In my dream I built it out of Apple, Cherry, with Plum accents, all laminated into a beautiful longbow.

Any advice on where to find apple that IS NOT kiln dried?
I googled it but came up empty, I have seen the others, just not any apple, except cut up as firewood or smoking chips  :(

Let me know what you think or any advice.
Right now she's just a dream, but someday I will make her do this  :archer2:

Thanks

Some of them woods can be hard to get becaue who likes to cut down a fruit producing tree? Also many people use apple as smoking woods , so there is where much of the dead wood and limbs go. Another problem with fruit wood is it loves to twist and check when it drys...

But there are some people who should be able to hook you up? What deminsions are ya looking for?

I know this is a long shot, but fruit growers remove older trees sometimes and re-plant. I was told this years ago by a guy who grew apples.)It might be worth asking an orchard owner if he does this and maybe you might score some wood.

I've got some smallish pieces from my apple tree that died a couple years ago.  What size are you thinking?  I may be able to hook you up.  I was gonna chop it up for smoking, but I haven't done anything with them yet.  Bark still on and all.

Roy PLEASE DO NOT SNEAK ANYWHERE,PLEASE!
I am a poor collage student and a father, I like ya, but can't be affording to bail your butt out of jail when the neighbors have you arrested.

But thanks for putting yourself out there, told you, you are a great guy.

Thanks for the idea, I had not considered asking a orchard owner, I do not live more then an hour from a large community full of orchards.
And no Roy, I ma not gonna sneak over there at night, think maybe I"ll go during the day and ask nicely instead.

LC, what do you mean Ol Roy aint qiute right< seems normal to me. besides I like him this way, he cracks me up and divertes some of the crazy looks away from me  :wavey:

I think I will try localy first, see if I come up with anything, if not I will give one of ya a holler.

Thanks

Roy, so when you cutting me YOUR apple tree and shipping it over to me  :knothead:    :dunno:   but I lost the paper I wrote the info I had wrote down about where to find Cherry and Plum wood. Should have put it in my favorites, stupid, stupid, stupid!

Anyone else have any sources, I will check local, but sure helps to have a backup for when or if I come up empty. In fact links on how to find any fruit wood would be cool too.

How's this for a name for a long bow out of all fruit wood: FRUIT LOOPS

what do ya think?

Thanks guys
