Another Osage
« on: January 13, 2013, 06:42:00 PM »
Finished this one up and it's 64" ntn, osage with blacksnake backing, asian buffalo tips, and leather handle wrap. It sports a hand twisted B50 hand twisted flemish sting with mink string silencers drawing 50#  @ 28".

I'll have to get some close ups of them, until then.

There's two on the far left in this pick.

Find a straight limb or shoot that is big enough to where the pulp has hardened in the center and the heartwood is thick enough on both ends to meet your needs for a walking stick.
Cure the wood like a bow stave and strip off the bark and whitewood. Chasin a ring all the way around the length of the stick makes it much less apt to break.
Mine and the wifes are short thin and light. Mostly used to help with balance and nocking spider weds and such from our path.
I made a heavey duty stick for my brother that had a mud catfish skin handle. And another where I carved in a morel mushroom on the tip above the handle. He is disabled and uses them all the time instead of a cane.
Never thought ot take pic's but I'll try and get some sometime. Gotta couple more ready to work up someday too.

Nice simple bow, Joe with just enough make up. The full draw looks GOOD!

Looks good to me Joe,

I hope someday to have one done, and have it turn out half as good.

Thanks a bunch guy's.

Most of the bows in that last pic are long gone, given and traded off I'm afraid.

Yes Tony I thought you might pick up on that arrow. Thanks for sending all the arrows that you did. I seem to stay pretty poor in the arrow side of archery....

Thanks again!
