Recurve help
« on: January 19, 2013, 10:24:00 AM »
So I'm thinking of trying one of these Binghams' one piece recurves for something different and easy, but I'm a little confused on the form itself.  Why do I need a reverse taper on the bow form under the laminate strip?  Why can't I just cut the form the way I want like anything else?  Is there a specific reason why they recommend to put the reverse tapers on the form under the laminate?

I tried to call them but of course they're closed on the weekend.    :banghead:

They put em under there because the riser is flat on that side if I remember correctly. When you put the limb taper under the riser, if your form is straight in that area, you will have gaps at the riser ends. The reverse tapers  make it equal out.

Please correct me if thats not right, its been awhile....
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Kenny is correct. this is not a Binghams design but I made the riser very similar to theirs..I glued a 002/in taper down onto the bottom of form(thin side in middle, thick towards ends) them I glued a piece of 040 black glass onto the taper for a smooth glue surface. I guess if your super handy you could figure in the 002/inch reverse taper when you cut out your form ...I'm not that handy so I just buy a nice set of red elm tapers from kennym and glue away.

Ok, I guess that all makes sense.  I suppose that is easier than trying to cut that taper and making it smooth enough to close up a void.  Guess I'll have another order to put in with you Kenny!  Might as well get bow swap materials too then.  Expect an email from me this week.

For future reference..
