In the past I made a lot of bbo  bowS , and then I whent to glass , all because they stoped makeing urac resin. So now I want to go back and make the bows that I like doing bbo. I,m hopeing maybe ROY FROM PA  . will jump in and let me know what he is useing for glue. Or any one else that knows  thank you BUCK

Unibond800 has been introduced by Nelson Paints who also made URAC185. It is the URAC185 replacement. Three Rivers sells it. There ya go Buck:)

Smooth on EA-40

Smooth-on and (now) Unibond are not the same type of glue with very different characteristics.  

While both are very capable glues used in bowyering, they are certainly not anywhere near the same.

Eric I don't believe we ever said smooth on and urac were the same, they are not even close. I said unibond800 is now the urac replacement.

What is the difference between these two glues and why is one better than the other for their specific purposes.

Unibond is better because they don't make Urac anymore. d;^)

Smooth on is not a gap filling glue were as Urac and unibond is.  With smooth on the laminates have to be smooth, with urac, the laminates need to be roughed up.

Whatta, I'll join too. Smooth On which is a two component epoxy is a gap filling glue, probably more than Unibond/Urac.

If wrong, I stand corrected.  But the way I was taught is that any glue that requires both surfaces to be smooth, was not a gap filling glue.  A glue that required both surfaces to be scored or roughed up was a gap filling glue.  Other than the color, I have never heard of people using Urac on glass bows because it would not adhere to the smooth surfaces.  I guess what you use and works for you decides the out come.

Smooth on fills gaps better than any other glue I'm aware of.  It's not enough to be thick, Epoxy will stay moderately flexable in those gaps.  

In my opinion Smooth On requires both surfaces to be "roughed up".  

Smooth On works well for wood to wood or wood to glass.  

The old Urac did not work on glass.  

One glue that hasn't been mentioned is Resorcinol.  It's very likely better than any of the above mentioned glues.  

Resorcinol does leave a purple glue line which turns off most people.

I agree with Mikes first  couple of lines in reguard to Smooth-on. It is good stuff for bow making.
I run from 60 grit to 36 grit on my lams and use smooth on. No problems.

I think Resorcinol is hard to come by now as well.
