Sight window/arrow rest question
« on: January 31, 2013, 07:36:00 PM »
Hey, thought this would be the best place to ask.

Refinishing my old bow, not sure if I got a little crazy sanding the sight window or what, but when I put an arrow on it, it appears to be angled. I understand the bow is cut past center, but it seems it's either cut waay past, I've done something, or it was angled originally.

First pic is with velcro padding the window, next one is without it. Would there be any adverse affects to shooting this? Am I being totally paranoid?    :campfire:

Edit: Doesn't seem to show up as much from the camera angle. But the rear of the arrow is ~1/16" from the window, while the front is touching.

I doubt you would have significantly modified the shelf just sanding off the old finish.

Keep the velco (or other material) side plate and shoot away.  You can always tweak the thickness of your side plate material for better arrow flight.

Make sure your string is tracking, straight down the bow.
If OK I'd build the shelf, out with the Velcro and a,piece of Popsicle stick straight up from the deep part of the grip.

Yeah you got to be carefull considering the angle you are looking at it! I doubt it's that severe. If it is that severe I doubt you'll be shooting that bow long before it blows or you can't get good arrow flight. JMHO

Well, I think I'll just proceed with the resto and hope for the best when I shoot it. I was planning on using an elevated rest like a Hoyt or Bear weatherrest. I think the weatherrest may be a bit thicker so that's what I'm leaning towards.
