Well after a long layoff of making TD recurves I decided to make a version combining a 1959 and 1962 Bear Kodiak.

Belly side

Specs, walnut and red elm I beam construction. Brown glass on back and clear on belly showing orange stained maple lams.

Homemade coin medallion

Finally top limb. Last name of Cooper but everyone always calls me Coop.

This bow has been tuff. First off it has a pronounced "bump" on the back side. Impossible for me to keep two lams glued together on glue up. Second problem like most Bear bows the riser has a definate bottom and top. So if it comes off form glued up with the top limb stiff, well lets just say thats ONE of the many reasons I called this bow "Patience".

I forgot to add the finish still isn't fully hardened so it doesn't have arrow shelf material installed. I was shooting for 50 to 52lb but when the top limb was way stiff I ended up at 47lb. Three things I like about the modern traditional world, HP skinny strings, carbon arrows and lighted nocks. So this bow is built to accomadate all three. Thus the black magnet recessed in sight window! lol

I love the lines, in fact it is pretty much what I have in mind as I am working on a new bow form and riser design at this time.

Coop, that is one more beauty of a bow. Great work, and I like the addition of the medallion to round out the Bear tribute.

Well thanks for the compliments BUT looking at the pics I just see all the flaws in it. LOL Everyone tells me I'm a prefectionist but I'm not, I just pay attention to details! lol It's so full of flaws I almost didn't post pics! My inspiration was Bear reintroducing the 59 Kodiak. I actually found thru a friend someone who had a original 59 Kodiak but in a rare 64" length. I just couldn't get use to that length but LOVED the look of it. After some research I found Vintage Works web site. IF you want to see craftmanship google that. Then I found someone with a 62 for sale.That was the final straw for me! I don't sell any bows, just build what I shoot. So I decided to build a "better" shooting bow of "62" but make it look like a "59". I first thought I'd hate the brown glass but I have to say I love it. Everyone that has seen it after seeing all my pretty TD bows says this is the prettiest bow I've every built! To be honest I kinda agree. Simple is always better and I'm happy with the end results. I originally planned on a leather grip cause I love that look but in the end I just liked what I ended up with! I plan to make 6 bows off this form, then sip some Jack and watch the form burn in the fire pit one evening behind my house! lol

I seen a bunch of flaws, LC. Biggest flaw is ya didn't spell my name right on the bow:) That there is some special bow building Dude, you do nice work for a WV Hillbilly:)

Looks good....I have a 59 Hybrid (59 with shooting capability of later Kodiaks like the 62) on order with Vintage Works.

Dont give up....you will get it just the way you want it. Sure of it.
