A new longbow for Dad
« on: March 15, 2013, 08:41:00 PM »
It was Dad's turn for a new bow.  The woods he selected were macasser ebony with padouk accents and action boo limbs.  The goal specs were 64" 46-48#'s @ 28".  After glue up we were at 41#   .

Jay, great looking bow. Is that black glass or dark brown?

Thanks everyone, I really enjoyed making this one.

The glass is brown, I like how the ebony is about the same color as it.

The white in the tips is 0.030 white glass.

Boy, Jay knocked the ball out of the park on this one!  This is one stunning bow!  We thought long and hard about wood choices and decided to go with the macassar ebony and padouk.  I couldn't be happier with that choice!

Jay called me the other night about what color handle wrap he should use.  We decided that a color that would bring out the "reddish" in the padouk would really look nice.  Great choice!

I just got in from shooting and am amazed at how nicely this bow shoots.  Probably the quietest bow in my fleet.  I tried shooting 2018 Legacy shafts, Blackhawk Vapor 4000's, and 55 - 60# cedar shafts.  They all flew great!  I'm drawing the bow approximately 51# at 30".  Just for kicks I broke out some 65 - 70# arrows to see what would happen.  They flew just like all the others!  This is a very forgiving bow.

Thanks Jay for another of your creations!  This one has whitetail written all over it.  Then again, turkey season is just around the corner....
