Latest Hickory Selfbow
« on: March 17, 2013, 07:26:00 PM »
Here is one I finished up today,  She is 66" n t n and came in at 47# @. 28".

She shoots quite smooth and was packing in arrows in my shop(14yds)

I used a mix of yellow dye and red to create a unweathered Osage look

What a shooter! I thought working on my osage stave this evening messed with my eyes when I seen the picture, and put a yellow hue to a hickory board...

and then I read that last sentence.     :biglaugh:

Congrats! and superb job!

Thanks Brothers,I call it Fauxsage. One capful of yellow mixed with two drops of red. I used the water based dye from T R A. Only issue I had was raised grain from the water based dye. I let her dry well and burnished the heck out if it. 6 coats of min wax clear satin poly, oooo steel wool between coats 3 thru 6. Thanks for the kind words. It means a lot coming from all the talented craftsmen on this site.

Nice looking bow.  I was with everyone else on the color.  I thought funny looking hickory but I like the way it turned out.

That is one sweet looking bow.  I may have to use your dye mixture on one that I am working on right now, if that's ok?
