3 piece take down project
« on: March 24, 2013, 03:50:00 PM »
Started a 3 piece take down static recurve.  Trying to copy the best shooting bow I have ever owned, a Sovereign Archery Ballistic.

Limbs are stained boo under glass, riser is bocote and jatoba.  Here is what we got to start.

Started with the limbs.

I wasn't real happy with the way one of the limbs truned out.  Didn't get enough pressure on the curve.  My stinking hose clamp didn't hold it's pressure.  I have some little spider looking areas under the glass.  I was ticked.

For the riser, my son helped me with the flare pattern.  He traced it out on my blocks for me to cut.  I have had trouble in the past with flares because it is so difficult to match them up.  I decided to try to cut both halves at the same time.

I glued them together with a piece of manila folder in between so I could seperate them once they were cut.

After the papper is sanded off looks pretty good.  All it will take to match them up is a little sanding and some thin lams.

Here is what I hope the riser resembles.

I even had enough material left over for a riser for a longbow.  :goldtooth:
