2 Youth Hill style longbows
« on: April 05, 2013, 02:50:00 PM »
Well...everytime i start working on a new bow my daughters ask me if it is for them.  I finally decided to make a couple of Hill style longbows for my oldest 2.  They are 5 and almost 3.    They saw bows on another site that looked like these and loved them so i decided to go with it.
I had to use shims in my fullsized form to glue these up.

I am very happy how they turned out and the girls love them.  They go well with the quivers i made them for Christmas.

I put some finger savers on the string to make them as kid friendly as possible.

niiiice. very nice! Now they'll keep ya busy!

I tell ya, I've never had more fun than making bows for my kids and grandkids. I shoot a couple of old Bear 'curves and an oak flat bow that has questionable cast but all my kids and grandkids shoot fine osage longbows! It's fun to spoil them  ;)

The longer bow is 52"and and the shorter is 46".  Draw weights are around 12@15.

This project was a lot of fun.  And...my wife didn't mind when i spent hours in the garage working on these bows.

Oh pretty sweet... my "oldest" will be three this summer- I guess I found the right present for her to start archery seriously.
Are they all purple heart or did you use stain?

Ed.: and what are those finger-savers? (how to do, where to buy...)

The strings have "Finger Savers".  These are just like No Gloves.  They slide on the string and into place.

Those turned out real purdy!   :bigsmyl:
