Palouse Static Recurve
« on: February 27, 2008, 11:47:00 PM »
Any one here shoot one? I've got one that I put on the back burner because I bought an Acadian Woods one piece Carbon Classic. I was just curious because I've been poking around this site and others for years and NO one has ever mentioned these bows! The bow I have is the 60" Millenium Static Recurve at 50#. It really spits an arrow for a 50 pound bow! The bowyers name was Doug Kenyon from Potlatch Idaho I believe. He used to have a website but that's long gone.

I remember seeing that website and that unusual bow. Do you have pictures?

Wayne,  I remember seeing ad's for those bows in Instinctive archer mag. I asked about a year ago  on here about the Millenium static tip and I think I only received a few responses. I looked for the web site too but found it to be long gone.
To bad. They looked like a nice bow. I would be very interested to see pics. of yours.
I reckon so

I shot one many years ago, I must have been about 13 or so. One of my Grandfathers good friends had one. I remember it being very smooth and hitting where I looked. It was one of the first recurves I shot that shot well for me. That was ten years ago, I have no idea about them now though.

The only other static tip recurve I found that looke like the  Palouse Millenium static tip is made by Bitterroot Bows/ Red Chavez. As far as I know he still makes them.

Red is currently recovering from some surgery, but conveyed to me his desire to ramp up his bowmaking once he's feeling better...he had taken a number of recent years a bit slower bow making-wise...but he's ready to go full force again.  If anyone is looking for contact info, let me know.

Well, the the guy who started this thread seems to have disappeared so I had to do my own research to find pictures of this bow...

This is what is written about the bow on the website:

"The Millennium is a full static-tip recurve.  The design comes from combining ancient styles of the Turkish and Sythian cultures with 21st century technology.

The riser incorporates a positive grip position allowing the archer to hold the bow exactly the same with every shot.  The limbs are sleek and narrow with a long working section from fade-outs to the start of the static tips.  This long working limb makes the bow very smooth and fast.  During product testing, the 60" model was shot at over a 30" draw length and performed well with no finger pinch and handled superbly!

The 54" model is a great bow for those with shorter draw lengths under 26".  This bow has the same qualities of handling, smoothness and speed as the 60" model.

These bows bring back the superb designs of the ancient bowyers from past millennia!"

And I found these pictures on the net:

Beautiful bows! I wonder whatever happened to the bowyer, Doug Kenyon? The pictures are probably copyrighted to him too.

You know I've heard that name on and off recently. I wonder if he has gone to work for another bowyer. I really like the lines of that bow. If you are not familliar with Red Chavez's static tip you should check the out. Maybe Rob knows where we can get a few pics to compare?

Rob, hows it going? I remember that you responded to my inquiries about Red's Static tip recurves way back about a year or so ago. I think you had said that you worked with Red? Is that correct? I hope he recoveres from his sugery well. It would be good to see him get back into the action of making bows again. I think I remember only one of his bows ever showing up for sale on the classifieds since I've been coming here(from the start) and that one was right handed.

A friend had one of these and I was fortunate enough to shoot it. What a great bow! Smooth very fast and easy on the eye. When I looked to buy one he was no longer advertising. Its a shame it was a very fine bow.

Looks like a cross between my Saxon Hawk and a Texas Recurves Comanche (another bow I've always wanted real bad to own, but people who have them tend to hang onto them).

Sure would be nice to see these sweet little things being made again.

I have a LH 54" Millenium Recurve wih 60#@25" and a LH 60" Apollo longbow with 60#@25",both from Palouse Archery. Both bows shoot nice and the workmanship is excellent.
Both of these bows are two-piece takedowns.
Unfortunately I never heard from Doug again in the Archery business.

Well, here's hoping that the current "short-bow" thing gets some good bowyers thinking about this design again. Short, "modern" recurves with a little set-back handle and static tips- I know the traditional horsebows are the genesis of this design and that there are some very good ones out there (I'd love to have a Saluki, too), but somehow this shape and the woodwork just hits me right.

Jhoneil, where'd you find that info? I've been looking, but your research beats mine. Also, anybody know of a site with Red Chavez's work on it?

Thanks,
-Charlie

Trade secrets, Charlie...

Actually, a lot of websites get archived on the net. The owner might take it down but some parts of it is still floating around in the net somewhere.

Try this site to look for dead websites:
