Will a bamboo osage cherry trilam hold together?
« on: May 09, 2013, 11:14:00 PM »
Pretty basic question, I would really like to take a shot at a reflex/deflex laminate wooden bow now that I have experience with wooden selfbows. I could just use bamboo on osage, but I was wondering if anyone would suggest adding a piece of cherry as a core or on the belly, for a trilam? If cherry willnot do the just, I can simply just use Boo and osage. I do plan on using titebond 3, considering they discontinues Urac 185. I was planning on scoring deep groves to fit the lams together with an old piece of a saw blade, like they do when gluing the horn bows together.

Yes, grooving will help.

Yes, cherry will work good as a core between bamboo and osage.

Cherry as the core, osage as the belly ... definately. I think that will look good too.

Keep us posted on the status!

Thank you guys so much, I won't have the wood until sunday, but I used the belt sander and table saw to work the boo into thickness and taped, it is fairly crowned, and around 1/8th, certainly not perfect because I don't have a planer.
