Happy To Oblige
« on: May 30, 2013, 01:39:00 PM »
A fine young man asked if I would dust off my tools to build his bride a bow so they can shoot together.  I wasn't planning on crafting any more for some time but since they were so eager how could I say "No"?
She was hoping for a 'dark' bow.  I had not used black walnut before but this was the time to give it a try.  My friend has a business of shaping and selling muzzleloader stocks who had an extra piece laying around enough for the riser and limb lams.  I ground the lams on Christmas day.  Also, had one piece of hard maple left to use for the two tone effect.  They knew I wouldn't be in a hurry and I finally finished it this past Sunday morning before meeting them at church.
I was thinking the black walnut would be dull but once the finish was applied I was pleasently suprised.

She was very pleased.  Hope they receive many years of pleasure shooting archery together.
