Started on a new recurve... Done!
« on: July 14, 2013, 04:56:00 PM »
I've had the riser block glued up for some time and finally got busy on it. It still needs to be shaped but I did get the site window cut in and roughed it out. The limbs are spalted maple- the riser is rose wood with a zebra wood "I" beam- I'm shoot for 55-57#@ 28". Here's a few pictures

Can't wait to see it all finished up, those woods should really pop then, although they look real good now, without finish.

Thanks guys- the riser should really polish up and look nice once it's finished- I did use some of the rose wood as knife scales this spring and liked the way it finished.Right now I'm hiding inside because it is 103 degrees out in the garage right now  :scared:

Not really a build along but this is how I do them... First I'll glue up some different width stock

Then I rip the blank close to the finished thickness and then cross cut them to the width of the riser

I glue the pieces on to a piece of glass-

I sand the squeeze out glue off and then glue the other piece of glass on when I glue it into the riser. I know there are different ways but this one works for me.

That's a beautiful bow. The mosaic stripes and the limb veneers are sweet!
Would love to see a braced and I braced profile.
