Congrats and good luck!

Pat,
My license says area/type is gen, so i dont know specific area.  My brother in law has got all of our info.  We are planning on going west of Buffalo.  The only thing i dont understand is that we put in for a certain area and got drawn general, if you have any ideas for a newbie, please feel free to let me know.

But my brother in law might be going to UTAH, that he informed this morning and i might be hunting by myself or looking for a hunting partner.  :knothead:

Thats still up in the air.

Featherbuster,
I will probably be hunting a general area in the Bighorns as well, either 36 or 37, unless I can get lucky and draw a limited quota area. When are you planning to come out? Usually, later in September is better, and unless you got an archery only license, mid september is when you can archery hunt. If you haven't been to the Bighorns before, know that they are tall and steep. Mississippi is sea level, most of the hunting in the Bighorns is 8 to 10 thousand feet (or up), so be prepared. But it is truly beautiful country with lots of critters.

Congrats and good luck    Make sure to take lots of pictures to share with us here!!!
To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Congrats, I hunt a general area but much further south than you, area 21.  If ya cant find anyone to hunt the bighorns with ya, come on down and head up with me.

If you drew general, then you applied general.  Was general your second pick?

Thanks Centaur and DanDaMan.

I have been in Idaho and Colorado before and i agree very tall hills.  :scared:

I am almost 99% sure we are looking at 36 or 37.

My trip to Idaho was fun lots of elk but very rough country and i wasnt prepared.

Colorado was a different story, I was physically and mentally prepared but on the second day of the hunt, I took a nasty fall, broke my hand and tore cartilage in my knee.  I had to wait in motel in BFE for 5 days waiting on my hunting partners to come to town.

On the draw i could only put general for my first choice, the lady from Game and Fish told me that i had to put general because of nonresidents.

And the part about my brother in law, he called and confirmed with me that he is going to UTAH to hunt, so I will hunting by myself.

Thanks for the info.

Awesome indeed!

Non-hunters, and anti-hunters, will NEVER know and love the Elk as you will.

Count the days and enjoy every one, until you set out to experience what awaits.

When the time comes,... pick a spot.

I hope your blood trail is short and wide, and bright crimson red!

If you would like any advice on area 37 hit me up I spent alot of years in that area. I have seen many good elk taken out of there. I may end up there again myself.
