Help identify this tip material!

OK, so I'm doing a little detective work here.

Help me identify the material on this tip...

Is it water buffalo horn?
     OR micarta / linen phenolic?

micarta...which is linen glued in layers...

I second that opinion. I use quite a bit of black linen micarta for knife handles. About as close to bullet proof as I'm likely to see in my lifetime.

Micarta or black phenolic.

With the color of the glass under it I would say phenolic.

Looks like linen micarta.  There is also paper micarta which doesn't have as much pattern and canvas micarta which has a rougher more aggressive pattern.

Thanks guys.  The reason for the poll is that someone is trying to convince me this is buffalo horn even claims confirmation from the bowyer.  I just don't buy it.  I'm no 'old-timer' but I've handled enough bows with black micarta to recognize the stuff.  The owner of the bow seems an honest person 100% and I think this is just a case of confusion/misidentification.

OK then lets call it..."simulated water buffalo horn" made from black micarta....

Buffalo horn is more solid in color and gets transparent when you sand it thin fading it into the limb. The tips are phenolic on the bow in the pic.

Got it in one, Bob.  You can use lots of resins, but phenolic is definitely one in use.

nine when I clicked on your link and zoomed it looks like a woven pattern even in it. So Micarta is my vote

Micarta is a brand name of phenolic. Like a skilsaw is a brand name of circular saw or a crescent wrench is a brand name for an adjustable wrench. So everyone is correct, except the dude that thinks its horn, anyway.
