Skinning question
« on: August 08, 2013, 01:26:00 PM »
I have a Northern Mist build approaching, and upon completion the bow will be sent to Semo_Hunter(Chris) for mocassin skins.  The question that I'm hoping to get answered is what should I ask of Steve Turay as far as finish on the back side of bow?  Is it best to not have the backside finish sprayed at all?  Lighty sprayed?  Or regular finish so that it can be roughed up for adhesion purposes?  I know that Chris uses Tru Oil for skins like most others.

Many thanks.

I wouldn't worry much about it, but if you are, I'd say ask the guy who's putting the skins on if it matters to him how it's finished. Perhaps he has a preference.

Yeah, ask Chris to be sure, but I don't think it will matter since he'll scuff the back up anyway before applying the skins.

It will all work out Keith, no problems here. I sent an email to Tippit so we can work out the details of the skin job. Chill man, lol when you finally get your bow I want you to have that "Wow" factor when you finally get it in your hands. I AM the Snake Skin Man and there is not a single doubt in my mind that you will be Proud of it!

From what he's told me, it's gonna be a sweet looker with a predatory low profile appearance. Mocassins will give that dark predatory effect. I love that! Black color scheme.

No worries Chris!  Lots of time still to sort this one out.  And like 99% of my experiences with bowyers, Steve is willing to work with me to deliver a product that fits my objectives.

Patrick,

The bow will be a NM Baraga.  It will be 62" 55@28.  Black glass back and belly (like all my bows), and the riser will be of cocobola with ebony or matching tip overlays. Haven't decided yet.

This isa nicely figured piece of coco that I'm currently considering.

That's a fine piece of cocobola.
