WOW! I love Bocote - It really adds a special look. Can't wait to see the finished bow...BTW I am a self proclaimed tri-lam safety inspector. For you own safefy I think it best that I shoot that one for a few months to make sure it is safe for you. I am only trying to look out for your welfare.    :D

Thanks guys, have a question! Is Bocote hard to get a finish sealer on? Any suggestions? Ya think tung oil will adhere to it?

Roy, I don't know about tung oil but Tru-oil wont dry over bocote or coco.I seal it with epoxy before the Tru-oil. Some say shellac will work but I have never tried it. Beautiful bow!! Bob

Roy, I had a damaged riser, bocote I believe, the bowyer said he used spar urethane for finish. I tried it a couple of times and it wouldn't set up properly. I emailed him again and he suggusted a light coat of spray shellac first then the spar urethane. That worked for me. Some say Deft works too. Great Looking bows your cranking out.

Try Thunderbird, Roy. It cures over all those oily woods like nuthin'... exceptionally durable and produces a professional quality finish too. Your bows are good enough now... they deserve it

Roy, I use Thunderbird too with no problems.

I have also used super glue to seal it before I put the oil on it.  I put 2-3 coats of super glue and sand between coats.

Ok then Mr. Bowjunkie, when it's ready to be sprayed, I'm coming to your shop to drink your beer while I watch you spray my bow.... Do you have the satin Thunderbird? I don't like a high gloss finish on my bows. Then while it's drying, you and I can grind out some lams on your fancy thickness sander:) What's ya thunk bout dat, Bowjunkie-son?

Spraying your bow will take 3-4 days, so unless you plan to stay... you won't be taking it home with ya.

I spray 3-4 heavy coats on it the first day to fill up the grain in the wood, let it cure at least 24 hours. Then sand it to level up the finish, steel wool, spray a couple more coats... a day later check it again. If I'm happy with the finish, it's done, if not, sand, spray, etc. til it's good.

If you want, we can work on it the first day, then you can leave it here and I'll finish it up for ya.

Roy, T-bird is a very effective finish for hunting bows. The most durable of anything I've used, and no glare. I use satin.

You don't make bows for show? Umm, actually, ya kinda do. You show them here dontcha?

Any time we present someone a bow we made for them, it's shown. Any time we post pictures of them on the internet, hand them to someone to inspect or adore, they're shown. Any time we admire our own work during a hunt or while shooting, it's shown... and it's generally been my goal to show the best I'm capable of... even if nobody but me will ever see it.
