G10 Accent Strips & Tip Overlays
« on: August 11, 2013, 07:58:00 PM »
Anyone use G10 for accent strips & tip overlays? Due to more color choices it would be cool if it is a suitable substitute for phenolic. Good or bad idea?

Works great! Stiffer than phenolic if you use it in a riser as an I beam

I have been using it for a while, really like the extra color choices over phenolic. Depending where you get it, there are also color combinations.  2x-3x stiffer than phenolic for a given thickness, so I use thinner pieces if its curving for an overlay or tips.

Hi guys, I'm looking to do overlays on my first bow and thought about using G10 as well. I don't have any machines, how hard would it be to shape the G10 with a 4-way file?

I know some people use G10 tips on their pool cues that is designated for the break, and there are pool halls that ban G10 because it chips and cracks the cue ball because it is such a tough material.

I think pool balls might be made from phenolic ... obviously without the linen.

G10 is a fiberglass reinforced plastic isn't it?

Because I know that a file will work very rapidly on fiberglass laminations ...
