my sons broke in hickory stick
« on: August 20, 2013, 09:52:00 PM »
i'd guess maybe he's shot it 50-75 times. i'll keep an eye on the brace height and see. im still learnin as i go.

the balanced point came out like i hoped, right below where the arrow rests... i cant tell how much, if any, it moves as you draw it full length. next i gotta stain it, seal it, and put a handle on it. just gonna use some old boot leather.

she aint pretty, she aint straight, but she's ours      upper limb on the left.

has just a little bit of string follow, less than i expected.

here is some video of him having a ball with it.

finished the stain, and got it waxed up, and hopefully get a grip stitched up today, never done either before. the wax turned out nice i think, feels dang good. was very easy to apply. this is my first real shooter, even if its not full size. i feel ive learned a lot on it.

not sure what i did wrong yet. had to cut the slack on the inside top and bottom and then stitch it back so it wouldnt have that loose pocket in there, didnt know what else to do except what i did, cut a V out and stitch. the long stitching started off good then i got off track i think, i kept thinking it would pull back together as i tightened it...never did..maybe i got looped underneath somewhere a time or two, broke two needles man handling it with pliers, next time i will gouge all the holes first to widen them out.... all kinds of learning going on..haha

little Hiawatha still likes it though =)
