Started a new 3pc longbow
« on: August 26, 2013, 09:25:00 PM »
This is for Halfsiminole. He made me an excellent powder horn in trade for this one. I should finish it in the next few weeks. It's all American. Made from a very fine chunk of maple (provided by Kirk Lavender of Bigfoot bows) and some exceptional Claro Walnut I have had for several years. Whitetail antler overlays, tips and knobs are planned from this one. Haven't decided if it will be a 64" or 66" yet. He wants 45#@ 31". Limbs will be maple and walnut. This one will light up when the finish goes on.

It'll be a short draw for me but it opens up off-the-shelf arrow solutions as well as ordering shafts from people here.  I'm still looking at making bows, but I was nowhere near ready to make a three-piece takedown.  Besides, I don't have near the tools, shop or experience-or the skill.

It's better in these pics than the ones he's texted me, mostly because I can see these better with the one eye that's working.  I seriously wonder how my powder horn was worth this, but I'm surely grateful.

Really like the looks of that combination.  Nice work!

I really like the idea of all N.American woods.

What limb pad angle do you use?

Thanks all. Beachbowhunter, limb pockets are 7 degrees. I change limb angle a good bit depending on ntn length. I hope to get the limbs glued up this week.  I have some pretty cool walnut veneer picked out.

Maple and walnut marry good as does maple and osage or walnut and osage.

Hey Dan, enjoyed meeting you at Pauls place. I really liked the Recurve you made Paul for St.Judes. Can't wait to see this one. And thanks again for the loan of the Broadheads.
