Need help with lam thickness
« on: September 13, 2013, 12:59:00 PM »
Hey guys, building a 68" hill style string follow, using red elm  for core, .040 glass, riser is walnut and is 17".
Wandering what thickness overall I would need for 55-60lbs.

I have ground:
 three .099 parallels
One set of .100 (0.002") tapers
And have 2 brown 0.40" glass
I'm ready to glue, did a dry run on the form last night but man it looks like its gonna be heavier than I'm shooting for.

Would love some suggestions...
Thanks
Chris

on my longbows .480 @ 1 .375 wide was about 55lbs @ 28"...that is measuring at the tip of the riser taper...that measure includes the glass...I used thicker glass...that might be a help???

my risers were 16" so I think thats close enough...

its gonna take at least two or three to get your recipe perfect....040 glass is OK for a recurve...I never used it for a long or flat bow...t

I`m working on 68" with 16" riser right now and it`s again tapered with 6mm/m or 0.006" per inch I guess and it`s bending great. Still wondering bout your 0.002"...
I`m using 0.04 glass too and she came out to the aim of 65#@28" with a wood stack of 11,8mm/0,465".
Shes pretty wide for a Hill style with deflex and narrowing she`d be around your desired weight I guess.

One set of .100 (0.002") tapers--------------
leave your limb butts wide [around 1-1/4+"]to hit weight with that taper--sounds close to me

Thanks guys for the help. She's all glued up and in the oven!
I wrote everything down exactly so I can adjust accordingly if this one doesn't hit my target weight.
