Bubinga & Cherry TD Recurve
« on: September 27, 2013, 11:02:00 PM »
Hi guys. Here's a few pics of my second bow I made for my wife this summer. Just got around to snapping some photos this past week:

This is a 60" TD recurve, #28 @ 28" draw, 7 3/8" BH. It's a solid bubinga riser and bubinga limbs with cherry stripe inlays. I finished it off with Tru-Oil.

Really Nice. One color and the cherry stripe, simple yet very stylish!

Thanks guys. I wanted to showcase the natural beauty of bubinga which has very unusual cross grains that acts like a hologram in the sunlight. The pictures don't do it justice. I added the cherry stripe to give the bow a little pizazz and make it more unique. I tried to make the bow somewhat elegant with the body curvature (wife's bow). I had a great time building it and she really enjoys shooting it. The bow actually worked out to have a draw weight of exactly 1 lb per inch of pull. I wish I cold say I planned it that way but I'd rather be lucky than good :-)

If this bow making thing doesn't work out for you, you could always go into photography.  Very nice bow and pictures!  I like the shape of the limbs and how you put the inlay in there.

Ha ha ha! I snapped the pics in front of my garage door with my iPhone and used photoshop to punch out the image from the background. A little brightness adjustment and wala! Thanks for the encouragement guys. I'm already working on my next one - local acacia w/ 24k gold gilded scroll work in the limbs. Never done it before but sounded like fun. We'll see how it turns out.
