Profile of a pyramid bow - flat or tapered
« on: October 01, 2013, 01:31:00 PM »
Hi guys I hope you can help. I'm in the process of making my first bow. Unfortunately I've had an accident with the bandsaw when cutting the profile to 5/8 I have made an uneven cut so one side dips to 1/2 approximately 7" from the tip of one limb.
So as I see it I have 2 options cut the profile of the limbs down to 1/2 inch, or keep the fades at 5/8 and taper down to 3/8 of an inch at the tips.

So which is best?

bow is 70" TtT, 1" 7/8 wide at fades tapering to 1/2 inch at tip.

Tiller the bow out and it wont matter. The side to side thickness will catch up.

1/2 inch is fine for 30 pounds.

Is 30# your true target? Or are you accepting 30# due to the band saw slip?

Yeah 30lb would be great. I only started archery in July so I'm only on 30lb limbs so far.

Most of my bows, up to 65#, have limbs 1/2" thick or less.  You have plenty of wood for 30#.
