Second Osage bow done, great shooter
« on: October 25, 2013, 04:12:00 PM »
I finished up my second Osage selfbow. This one took longer than my first because I had too much getting in the way of time but I'm not complaining. Came in at 55lbs at my draw which is exactly where I wanted it to end up. It was a little bit more of a challenge because it had some limb character and a tiny bit short than my first. But in the end she has a little string follow but it is a dream to shoot. I honestly don't believe it is any less of a bow than any glass bow I own, very pleased.
Thanks again to Matt Wirwicki for a great stave, now it's time to get number 3 rolling.

Great looking bow.  Nice job on the grip, too.

Awesome - I am so jealous of you fine bowyers that can produce a self bow. I have yet to try and even though I have gotten pretty good at putting together a laminated bow I still haven't worked up the courage to attempt an osage self bow. I would love to go to a class someday and learn from one of you. I would rather save trial and error and replace it with instruction and success!

Cameron

Please don't confuse my with the really great bow makers on this site lol. Trust me I am no where near their skill level. But I will say that it could not of been completed without what I have learned from here and of course starting with a solid stave from Matt makes it that much easier. This bow is going to the woods with me tomorrow, it will accomplish a long time dream, to hunt with a bow I made. Just being in the woods with this bow will complete my journey that I have been on a mission from the day I first picked up a traditional bow over 25 years ago. It was a Damon Howatt Mamba and from that day I wanted to be able to put together my own equipment. If I manage to take a deer with it, cool. But I'll be happy either way. Kind of makes me feel like a kid the night before Christmas.
