what wing feathers are you guys using?
« on: March 01, 2008, 11:28:00 AM »
I have heard a lot about feathers latley and as far as I can tell the advice that I have been able to get is that right wing feathers are better for Left hand shooters, and left wing feathers are better for Right hand shooters.  What are your thoughts.  i have been shooting right wing feathers and I am right handed, I have had no problems but I suppose there is always room for improvement.  I was thinking about shooting the all buzzing "single bevel broadhead" such as the Grizzlys or the new Delta No Mercy. Are the Grizzlys beveled for right or left wing feathers?

I'm right-handed and I have been shooting right wing, but I have just switched from right wing to left-wing.  Of course I cannot shoot until me new " Whip " arrives, I just ordered new feathers two days ago.

Unless you're paying attention to the feather/broadhead/spin issue, it doesn't make any difference what wing you use.
For what it's worth, I use right wing.

I am right handed, but shoot left wing feathers.  The only reason was that right wing feathers would cut my index finger on my bow hand.  A friend suggested I try left wing and it helped.  That was many years and many bows ago, but I still shoot left wing.  I'm shooting carbons now and it is real easy to rotate your nock to get good fletch clearance, so I don't believe it is much of an issue.

It can make a difference if your shooting off your hand, or a bow that puts the arrow unusually close to your hand.  In that event the right/hand left wing and left handed/right wing can come into play.  Otherwise forget about it unless you are trying to match your fletching to a singe beveled broadhead.

The Grizzly needs right fletch for best performance, the new Zwickey can be had in right, left or conventional double bevel.

IMO, there is no difference. L.W. with aluim.arrows the tips will come loose
gotta keep a eye on it but, alittle wax will fix
that. I have had the best luck with 5" Shield L.W.-Pops

I shoot right handed and have used R/W and L/W and see no difference in arrow flight. I have used feathers from 4" to 5 1/2", shield and parabolic. I use right wing for all my arrows now. I will soon try a R/W, low profile shield cut feather that I burn to 4 5/8" long. Jim.

I'm a right wing fan. I've been shooting them for years. I tried some left wing a few months ago, becuse that was all i had left in my storage box. I don't care much for them.

I'm right handed and shoot right wing feathers that seem to fly well mainly because I only have a right wing clamp for my Bitz and am too cheap to buy another.

I'll buy & use whichever's on offer/cheapest at the time! Makes no difference in arrow flight. I've also used RW feathers with a LW offset & vice versa. Can't tell the difference at all!  :D

So.....

does right wing make the arrow spin to the right and left wing make the arrow spin to the left?

Also, the arrow needs to be spinning to the right to make a Grizzly work efficiently, correct?

I know it seems this has been covered pretty well but for some reason (maybe because I'm a little slower mentally then I care to admit.) my mind can't find a straight-up answer.

Thanks,

Todd

Right hand shooter, always have shot left wing feathers. Works the best for me.

Right handed here, I've shot both, but I like rt handed fletch. Although lately I've been getting some small cuts on my hand. When I shot 3 fletch I never had an issue. Tryig some 4 fletch now and some arrows are catching my hand, but just barely. I think a little tweaking and I'll be able to correct it.

Todd, right wing will make the arrow spin to the right, clockwise.  Left wing the opposite.  For the Grizzly use right wing.   :D

I have been shooting right wing feathers since I started making my own arrows 35 years ago. It's just what I started out with, and all my clamps are set up that way. Don't know if LW would make any difference or not. (The way I shoot, nothing would help, LOL!
