Anyone else out there crazy like me :)
« on: November 02, 2013, 10:12:00 AM »
So is there anyone else as absolutely bat #!&$ bow crazy as me???  :)  I send a lot of time driving, and running, and for like the last two years since u crazy people got me hook on bow building,  all I do is look at trees while I'm running/driving.  I try to ID trees and think... I could probably make a bow out of that tree...  :)  or like every time I visit my parents house all I think of is cutting down the black cherry tree in there side yard that is 8-10" around and about 20' of clear trunk!!! Anyway thank u all for absolutely wrecking my thought processes!!!  :)

no.. i think you only have a very mild dose right now,
although it is incurable, and will get a lot worse as time progresses, with absolutely no hope of a cure- sorry to hear about your misfortune!

the symptoms can be temporarily stalled by purchasing and building multiple bows and associated equipment, and spending as much time as possible in a calm and meditative state of mind, (in the bush works best for me!) with a bow held lightly in your fatally sickened and sweaty grasp!

it is super important that your partner is supportive during this time, and does their level best to not stress you unduly. they could possibly take on an extra job( after all they are probably not doing much between 2 and 3 in the morning!!), so that you never feel any financial stress during bouts of self medication.

g'luck mate- yer' a goner!!

I've scoped out every hardwood tree in my neighborhood while walking my dog, and there are some beauties; huge elms, pipe straight shagbark hickorys, mulberry, ash, walnut, and the usual oaks and maples.  I look at the mulberry and ash trees in my yard and wonder if I really need all that shade.  You sound pretty normal to me, Dave    :)

So does knowing how many and the location of every Osage tree in your town qualify?

Ya know how many times my truck has drifted off the road onto the berm while checking out Osage trees? Then the wife gives me hell. LMFAO She just doesn't understand.

I pulled over my work van on Fri to scope out some osage trees in my area. I live in the finger lakes area of NY and osage is extremely rare in these parts. Yet in one section there were 7 trees along the road. My partner who was riding shotgun was like what the heck are you doing? I explained osage....he still thought I was crazy!

Yes I would say that making bows has moved up the chart on hunting and shooting.

Went into the woods today for the first time since bow season opened. Spent much more time scoping out trees than actually looking for sign. Pitiful. I feel your pain.

I have more osage stored than I can use in a lifetime, swore I wouldn't cut any more.

I noticed this tree pushed over near my three day a week walking trail. I repeated every time I walked by it "I don't need the wood", "I don't need the wood", "I don't need the wood".

After reciting the above mantra for a couple of weeks my disease kicked in, I called the city to see if I could salvage the tree, got permission and went to work. This is the first tree I have salvaged with the help of a small tractor, a piece of cake compared to the countless osage trees I have cut and hauled by myself.

Finished up with these and to my credit gave most of it away because, "I don't need any wood", Just couldn't stand to see it go to waste.

nice move Eric. Wasting osage is akin to wasting meat.

you guys that have Osage growing locally have it made. Over here it was introduced in a few spots years ago as wind breaks, and is hard to come by.Still some people with it growing on their property don't know what they have. The down side is those that do, want an arm and a leg for it!

Eric if you find more trees like that that you don't need but cut them anyway, you can just let me have them if you need the space.    ;)    its a win win.  i get osage, you get space.  id make the drive for a haul like that.  recently drove to ohio for about 10 bows worth of wood, and i probably will again.
