Source for persimmon wood riser blocks?
« on: November 07, 2013, 02:12:00 PM »
Anyone know where I could get some persimmon big enough for some riser blocks.

I like the looks of this wood.

Pretty hard to come by. You will probably have to cut your own.

I know where a few trees are, problem is that deer love these things too. So cutting them is bitter sweet.

If I do come across one that can be cut; do you want enough for a HH riser? 16" x 1.75 x 1.75?

14" x 1.75" x 1.5" are the minimum dimensions I'd be looking for.  And yes for a H style riser.

I am always looking to try different woods.  I like the idea of using woods that come from the US.  As much as I like macassar ebony and other exotic woods, there is something cool about using woods grown in America.

Agreed; I have been seeing a lot of burls while creeping through the woods. Oaks and others.

Some persimmon veneers would be amazing! I'll keep my eyes open,a saw ready, and the glue handy! Let you know what I find in a few days.

Eric................

I have lots of seasoned persimmon lumber (5/8 boards) Could laminate a nice riser using an accent strip or I beam construction.
