Started another snubnose...Done!
« on: November 29, 2013, 08:41:00 AM »
A friend of mine has been wanting one of these short bows so I got started on one for him- the riser is wenge with a mosaic strip. It should finish 50-55#s@28" if all goes as planned. Here's a few pictures of my progress on the riser first.

Looking good Dave, can't wait to see more progress.  That Wenge riser will look awesome.  What color of glass?

Nice!
But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

Jess he wants black glass and maybe a thumb rest. If I put one on it will probably be a piece of elk antler. The jury is still out on that at the moment.

Elk antler would be a nice touch, will look classy with the black glass. I have a couple going with Wenge and black glass at the moment.

Love that design. The mosaic is sweet, and I really like those shorties you've been making. When I finally get myself together and build a glass bow it'll be one of those. Can't wait to see more progress.

So here it is out of the form with the boogers  knocked off- it still needs a couple of inches trimmed off both ends. I've never worked with wenge but I hear it takes a fair amount of grain filling- maybe similar to Purple Heart?

Boy those look awesome trux.  I still say they look like a cape buffalo. Heck make an all black on and call it Black death in honor of that mighty beast.

But that one looks sweet for sure.

Yea my buddy wanted a lot of black with some red in the tip  and riser overlays so this one may get that name. Got some rough shaping done.

two quick questions
1.do you find your accuracy is compromised with such a short bow
2.are they inherently more noisy

thanks

It doesn't compromise my accuracy...I'm not that good of a shot-lol. This one is like many recurves on the noise level- it does need the correct brace height and string silencers. Nock to nock it is 45"s- it uses a 40 inch string so amo would be 43"

Looking good. Oh you will probably be cussing before you get the wenge filled good. I think a acetone and smooth-on mix might do it though.
