Its a lotta bow tho Roy...  :biglaugh:

I'll be back on it pretty soon, had to shovel some snow and put some ice melt on the sidewalks.

At least it didn't blow around and drift!! (yet)

Out of the oven....

Here is the limb with the boogers we wiped off after airing up the hose.....

Here I've snapped off all I can, now to the old disc sander to clean one side up , then to the thickness sander to get it straight and both sides cleaned up....

Peeled the tape off before it sticks permanently, don't look too bad...

New tape on and run thru the big sander a few times, down to 1.470 wide....

Now we mark where the limb taper on sides starts, and the nocks, 12" and 32" from centerline down the bow back, its a 64" bow....

You also mark center of limb side to side at start of taper, and at nocks. Then string thru nock to nock and check bow center, and the start of limb taper for being in line. This one was right on, but if it doesn't line up with center, move both nocks the same amount to get on the bow center line.....

Now I mark the tips at 32" line for nock, I start 5/8" wide , but intend to be 1/2" when done here...

7 minutes later, the limbs are profiled using the old Skil disc sander....

Here is a pic that p bucket got out of order somehow, checking the string to the line. I have lasered them, but with the curves, I don't quite trust it....

Now to the nocks, remember the line I squared across the limb when it was full width, 32" from bow center for a 64" bow....

A 45* mark at the line, we will curve the nock groove to the belly later, right now, I file on the side of line toward center, leaving the line....

The round file...

There we go...

Another view....

Stay sharp, Kenny.

Always wondered why you lam guys put your string grooves so far from the tip. That aside it looks great so far.

Now smooth the limb edges , taking care to not run a glass sliver in your hand, hurts like heck and don't do the bow any good either. Note how I curve the edge of paper up toward center of bow. That is the direction you will pick up a sliver.

Nocks filed in, we find a string, have some old ones in shop to use while nocks aren't smoothed out yet, string her up and put on machine to look tiller over...

Also check weight, really good!!!

A little tweaking, tillering and sanding edges and here we are...

OK, now for overlays, here I've peeled the tape after litely scoring on an 11" spot in center of bow. My skive looks pretty good under that glass.....

Here we glue on the overlays, 1 black, 1 red, 1 walnut.  The actionwood pc is just for clamping it......

Same on tips, don't forget to rough up the glass on the limb so glue can grab. I glued on with CA, but will wish I'd used EA-40 by the time I get done sanding the overlay to limb glass area.....

Now we lay out the riser shape and do some cutting...

Now take a deep breath, but its not as bad as you might think, I'm gonnna cut the sight window here...

Here we go with that done, see, it wasn't so bad...

Getting closer...

Not sure I'll leave the woop de do below grip, what ya think?

And last one for today,I trapped her to the back but didn't think to get pics of that......

I'll shoot her thru the chrony next time I have a bit of time here. I think I'm gonna like her a lot so far. Might be the last bow I'll need to build myself...   :D

The grooves are much closer to the tip now, that was still under construction, another thing I didn't get a pic of when done...

Everything past the groove is just unneeded weight IMO!

Yeah right.  I've said that before, and also told my wife that before too.

Great build Kenny!

Awesome build Kenny!  That walnut is really beautiful, came out great!!

Also, are nocks usually measured to the top lip? I've always measured mine to the bottom lip as I figured thats about where the sting will be when it's on.  Wonder if I've been making my bows a little long now haha.
