Getting a handle on longbow grips
« on: January 01, 2014, 03:31:00 PM »
Hi all,
I am planning my first build and was wondering if I could get a good explanation on the key differences between a locator grip and recurve style grip for a longbow.  Spec's would be great.  Thanks!
Pete

Locator Grip  - A handle design that is dished in such a way as to predispose the bow hand to consistent placement on the grip.

A recurve style grip can or is a locator style grip by the above definition. Most recurve grips are pistol grip types shaped to personal taste.

The bowyers bench forum has a glossary of terminology at the top of the page. That's where I got the quote from.  :)

Specs will be hard to give if no info on what type of bow you are planning to make.

Luck on your first build and welcome to TG
