awesome video Roy- are those all her cubs??
i went for a hunt this morning, walking down the trail to my spot, and came across a pair of fawns- out of their spots, but only this springs fawns , i stepped off the trail , and started to call- hoping there was a buck with their mama in the area.
no movement, so obviously these little fellas were on their own, so i thought i would try and scoot around them. well they were not afraid, and wouldnt move away, they wouldnt let me closer than about 6', so i herded them down the trail to a fork ahead, at the fork, i squatted down, and the one turned and walked closer to me again. so i kinda wrangled them down the one fork, and went down the other, to my spot.
i went out again this evening, in a different area, got settled in, called a few times, was sitting there really quietly, when a big brown bird about the size of a pidgeon, flew in and sat right on my head!!!
i could feel its claws/nails through my asat mesh veil and hair, sticking into my scalp.the first thought through my mind was that it was going to take a dump on my head.
but after a good minute or two, it flew off, unperturbed, to another tree, leaving me unsullied!
i managed to call a deer in after that, but it came in behind me, other side my hemlock and salal brush thicket i was backed into- so i could hear it just 20' away- but never laid eyes on it!!
on my way out at last light, i heard a ruckus down in the creek- thought it was a deer crossing the creek, nocked an arrow and settled my racing heart, after a little while i realised there was no deer, and on closer examination saw that it was spawning salmon in the creek!
never drew the bow once- but had one of my most awesome days hunting ever!
