Cleaning up the shop and trying to get organized today. Found six bows in progress that I am determined to finish or burn this year. Found a nice little kids hickory bow that just needs some finishing up. Can't even remember who I was building it for. May even have a swap bow half finished already. Feeling enthusiastic about the New Year.

Congrats Ralph, any photo's.

Today I traded this

For this, a 6x48 Grizzly belt sander with a 3/4 hp motor

Its a little rusty and dusty but it runs like a champ.  I owe him another truck load of fire wood.  I already have it cut and split, just need to bring it to him.  Don't laugh at all my straps.  It needs to withstand the 75 mph ride home.

He inherited the sander and didn't have room for it.  He wanted to just swap for my benchtop sander but I didn't think that was fair at all.  I threw in a couple of truck loads of seasoned fire wood to even it up a little.

Roy, I'll be riding the break on that Dodge V-8 all the way home to keep it under 75.

My new pup arrived on a plane today, all the way from S. Carolina.
a Teckle or SWD from awesome working lines. breeders are bow hunters too!
they produce some of the better working dogs out there.
was the pick of the litter. what a great pup.

got me a plan fer that!
a good friend of mine, who had a young daughter a few years ago- had the first boy come a-courting. now he's a great big tough logger 6'6" tall and seems about 6' across the shoulders!! anyway, the kid was driving a banger of a car- well, he just strode out there and put his double bitted axe through the hood!!
the kid left in a hurry, and Kevin had to buy another hood from the wreckers- but he figured that was the cheapest insurance he ever bought- his rep spread like wildfire at the high school

I went for a walk this morning to look at some osage trees.  I had passed through this part of our property in the summer and made a mental note to come back and check it out a little closer.  I'm glad I did.  I found an area with some very straight trees.  I went back to my shop and tried to work on a bow.  I just couldn't focus on it so I headed back to the woods with a chainsaw.  I dropped a tree and got three good sections out of it.  The rings aren't the greatest but they will  work.

This is why I couldn't focus on a bow.  The straight trunk in the middle is the one that I cut

I also cut an osage limb to use as a new mailbox post.  Got it debarked and sealed before I came in for the night.
