Started working on a couple of kids bows I have been kicking around. Also started putting a few together that will give me some options for the swap. Hope to get some work done on one of the short bows tonight and will post some pics.

Sunday night I got the yew bow finish sanded and some rattle can laquer on to seal the bow up.  Last night I sanded off a little orange peel I ended up with somehow and applied the first coat of tru-oil.  Never used the stuff before, I don't know what inspired me to use it on this bow.  But man, that red yew showing out the sides next to gloss black glass is just awesome!

(I posted a pic under the wood/glass combo thread.)

worked on the fades of my trilam a bit last night. Took the tape off the back and belly. The heat gun idea worked great Roy..Thank you!

Did a little "vice" tillering. Looks promising....
Hopefully be able to do some work on the tips tonight so I can get some type of string on it.

I final sanded, and thinned out my phenolic and osage tip overlays.  They were pretty bulky before, now they look great.  I put a coat of tru oil on.  Probably go 6 coats or so then some satin helmsman spar.

Here's a question for you glass guys.

How do you get the grain to be so bright and pop like what Shawn is showing off?

Do you treat the lams before glue-up? Wet'em? What?

Red those lams are wet with alcohol.  Its about the closest thing I can do to simulate being under glass.

Thanks, Shawn. They are beautiful. I doubt that I'll ever make a fg bow. Too intimidating.

I'm gonna try to get my swap bow glued up today.  Trying the string clamping method, because I have tons of nylon cord around here because of my knot obsession.  Hickory backed ERC, if I get it actually glued I'll take some pics.

Shawn, they are very nice, someone in the swap is going to get an awesome looking bow.

I pulled the clamps off a handle and tips I put on a kids bow only to find that I had used the wrong piece for the handle.     :knothead:    So I had to grind off that piece and glue on another. Luckily it was only about 3/16th thick and I had lots of other pieces to fit. Will take the clamps off tonight and start tillering. Need to get back in the swing of things before tackling the swap bow.
