Looks nice Dave!
Today I realized that Krystal finish doesn't like a lacquer substrate. I've previously used rattle can lacquer to seal cocobola and keep the bow from getting dirt in the grain as I shoot it in. Sand it down a little, and finish right over it. This is the first bow that I've tried to finish with Krystal though.
It started when Sweka pointed out that the string seemed to be digging in at the lower nock. Well, it really wasn't, but the finish had flaked off. I figured I must have left some wax there and started trying to feather the area out to touch up before the final coat. Well, one thing led to another and I started to realize it was a bigger problem. Pulling out the scraper, the Krystal just popped right off the lacquer in flakes.
So the morning was spent completely sanding down the swap bow (and then some to be sure) before starting the finishing process all over. I'm not perfectly happy with the finish, but it'll do. At least my lettering looks better this time with new pens.
I think I need a bigger tip on my spray gun, looks like about 1.3 or 1.4 when I look in the literature. Picking out HVLP spray guns seems like rolling the dice though. Oh well, all in due time.
