I like that left one, Cam. I think the new curves look sweet.

The left definitely. You can still let loose some more. I love curvy risers.

Left.  Needs more curves, I love aggressively profiled bows.

I have the cocobolo riser on the right now looking like the left Dymondwood riser. Not only do I love the look better but it feels so much better in the hand and shoots so nice. I think I will take the advice to even get a bit more aggressive with the curves...Thanks for the input. I love having you guys to get solid insight.

here is my daughter  skinning the boat, and my mate Tim looking on

have since taken a fall on a bridge construction project- and wrecked the ligaments in my right thumb- so been out of action for a little while

Very Cool!  How much does one of those finished Kayaks weigh? 16-18 ft? take care of the thumb.

these ones weighed #24 when done.- but were built entirely of western red cedar.
i will use yellow cedar next time- quite a bit tougher- nicer to work with, although a little heavier, and lots of it here!!    :D
a greenland style boat is  a bit longer- and with some extra ribs thrown in- and a more robust deck for slingin' a dead  seal on, will weigh in around #40.
these boats were just on 16' if i remember correctly.
the big thing is how little they cost to build, and how amazingly tough and beautiful they are!

Those kayaks look awesome! I worked on my dust collector system today, just have to build the little shed to contain the motor and bag outside the shop..then I made a big pot of Chili using the last pack of hamburger from last years big buck..I got a doe 2 weeks ago and we have been eating that too.

how did you do the dust collector?
did you buy a unit, and just plumb it, or build from scratch- i want to upgrade mine with those cyclone drums before the pump and bag- make it easier to deal with the waste!

No expert here, I read a little bit about collector systems and am figuring it out as I go. I bought a 1hp portable unit years ago from Harbor Freight and used it with a single hose..a real pain switching it from machine to machine.. I have a 2hp collector and its sitting in storage now, I should upgrade to it.. I made the cyclone a couple of years ago. I used a new 30 gallon galvanized garbage can, rubber foam sealed the inside of lid. I plumbed the lid to make the air swirl, 99% of the saw dust drops into the can. I recently bought 4" thin wall PVC sewer pipe, 45 degree elbows, sweeping "T"s and other fittings that fit my 4"flex hose I got from the Woodcraft store. I also bought a roll of #6 bare copper wire, brass screws and copper connectors to ground pipes, cyclone and motor..I'll post pics when its done. I run the collector outside of the shop, I cut a hole thru the wall of shop for plumbing and power.

Fujimo, I am still working on the dust collection system..I am piecing it together slowly..I am taping the joints instead of glue in case I need to make changes. I will be replacing the 1/2" long zinc coated screws with non sparking brass screws. I will also add ground wire down to each Blast gate. This is a work in progress I guess, I was suposed to have a week vacation last week to finish this and hunt a few days.. I felt kinda bad and it was warm and raining... so I went to work. I will be building a little dog house next to the garbage can/cyclone for the dust collector, I think I will have to run a 6" vent tube from collector building around the corner of shop so I don't pull fines into the shop thru the Air conditioner..

Careful Roy if'n you get one of those Kayaks, your peckers are in danger of getting caught.

I've been chasing some rings on a couple of osage billets. Not sure if I want to go with a 2 piece or splice them.

Those billets are begging to be a two piece, although the kits are a bit pricey.  The last one I did I made my own from a piece of 1-1/4" EMT conduit and a piece of 1-1/4" brass drain pipe.  It came out just as nice as the ones I ordered on line.  Any way you decide, it should make a nice bow.

The last two days I spent working on my first BBH longbow. I have successfully built 45 r/d glass bows with not one failure. I took my time memorized Dean Torges Video and made a beautiful BBH bow tillered it with great care and here is what happend on the first shot!

This is why I build glass bows! I don't lose well...I am glad I was alone at the time.

Hey Wayne: A class like that with your daughter is priceless. And the boats look pretty cool too. Thanks for posting.
