I have a bow I would like to refinish,is the away to save the original writing on the bow or does it have to be rewritten?Burt

Just carefully sand around it, but not over it.
I just refinished one that Ron LaClair autographed for me and was careful around his signature. You can't tell that I didn't refinish the surface where he wrote.

The only way I can think of is to tape off the area with writing.
Refinish everything then remove the tap end sand lightly over the surface of the original writing.
Then put new finish over all.

I refinished one and instead of saving the writing, I photographed it, and just recreated it afterwards ... granted it was nothing fancy like a signature that needs to be original, just model numbers and weight etc.
