Isn't that the fun of it Pat!?

Building a wood bow often feels like a chess match between the bowyer and the stave.

That is part of what has kept me at it for over 25 years, Ben. I guess it is powered by the ebb and flow.

Got my glass from good ol' Kenny today. I have black set and brown set. Need some thought as to what to use. The riser remember is zebra, wenge, and tan phenolic. I was thinking of doing a strip of brown and black with the brown on the back of the bow. The core is action boo natural color so it is light.

What do you guys think????

Awesome work folks. I will try and be better getting on over the next couple of weeks. until the weekend of the 18th my youngest graduates high school that weekend. I have family coming in also. Not that I have been building. I have moved a stave around front I want to chase a ring on and I have a hickory backed hickory I want to try first.

We are coming down to the wire for some.

Great work folks.

Really nice work everyone!  Technically I'm done for this year but I still love seeing the work ya'll do.  I'm getting ideas for next year already!

Well Pat I hate to interrupt a man while he's working and you looked busy so I just let ya be.  I honestly figured I would just come back later and talk to ya, but I didn't get around to it.  Your one of the few on here that I would recognize.  I have mine ready to ship.  Probably will be Saturday before I can get to the post office in time to get her down the road.

other than final scaling and writing the specs/name on her, my victims bow is done. ran into a problem with my pvc tube though. accidentally kinda sorta cut it into 12" sections and strapped it to the wall on my bench to hold arrows. not sure what i was thinking when i did that. i'll let the new owner show the full draw.

66" sumtin# @ about near there", brown glass, maple lams, walnut riser and tips.

liking the elegant simplicity of it.

Sweet looking bow Moose, leather work and sewing look fine to me.  I'd be more than happy to give it a home.

Well ... disaster just struck ...

Was over at Canopyboy's place doing some shooting and some cutting lams.

Well he shot the swap bow about 10 times, and then the bottom tip literally sheared right off at full draw. It was insane.

After examining the break we decided it looked like a flaw in the horn and the ipe in basically the same spot.

I was considering piking th ebow to bring the weight up a bit so I guess this settles my decision.

Literally just the tip broke so I will pike each end by an inch or so, and retiller.

This time the overlays will be phenolic .... or something really hard where you can clearly see the grain. Also will build up th eoverlays a bit so theres some more material there.

These were not my thinnest tips by any measure so I think that natural material flaws were to blame.

Pics to come soon.
