Started cutting some stuff today for the trade bow.  Got a real nice piece of figured walnut I'm gonna use for the lams, just need to figure out if I'm gonna splice something or just use as is.  Also got some walnut and quarter sawn sycamore planed up for the riser, but I haven't fully convinced myself that's what I want to use yet.  I just can't seem to make up my mind.  I've got some nicely grained flat sawn hickory too, maybe I'll use that.  Guess I don't know if I'm just not happy with the woods, or like it all and can't decide.  Still can't find the dang camera to take pictures of any of it either!  Wife took it to her mom's a few weeks ago and haven't seen it since.  Hopefully it'll turn up - maybe I'll just have to send this one out sight unseen!

Red I did not take pictures of the tooth pick step. But after I run a string down the bow like in the picture below, I drill two holes in the handle area where the leather grip will cover them and also the riser section will cover them. I drill them about two inches apart and all the way through all material. Then at each limb tip I drill a hole on each side of the boo, but not into the boo, just right up against the edge. After the glue is applied, I stick tooth picks into all holes to keep the lams and boo centered. I also wrap tape around the mid limb area.

I decided to back off on the deflex and reflex on this bow. Seems lately I have been pushing for more and more d/r and I was not liking the results. So I wanted to just make a sweet looking r/d long bow without trying to go for a recurve look. Hell it's for Kenny M anyway so who cares...     :biglaugh:

And Wayne, I decided to back off picking on all you girls, cause I'm an old guy trying to get into heaven:) LOL

Headed down to the barn today to pick out my wood so I can get it shipped off to Kenny and turned into lams.  Maybe I can start my riser as well.

Shawn, Roy and Kiwi: those are looking good. I really like that light colored recurve kiwi. What woods are those?

Roy, I really like that milder profile on that bow. I never have made a boo backed bow, gonna have to try that someday.

Clusters, wasn't it, Roy?  I get those.  I had one actually make me black out and fall down stairs.  Never felt that, I was too busy with the headache.  They've gotten more frequent after the strokes.  They slam me full of opiates and let me sleep them off.

Been praying for you, cause I been there.  Had them ever since I got the plate in my skull.

Dang, you boys know how to make a guy stand back and deeply appreciate being relatively healthy.

Pulled a nice 8/4+ walnut board I milled up a couple of years ago from the barn rafters.  Nothing fancy, just a nice, clean piece of relatively straight-grained walnut.  Going to pair with some inner lams of cherry I milled up and had Kenny grind last year that I still have hanging around.  Should be a nice "chocolate covered cherry" effect.

Planning to make a reverse-handled Hill out of it.  But trying to figure out my riser wood(s).  Can't make up my mind.  Would like to jazz it up a little, but not too much.
