Gluing Ipe to osage...UNIBOND or TB3?
« on: January 25, 2014, 09:07:00 PM »
Hey guys..

I'll be gluing some thin strips of ipe to osage.
Nice flat straight surfaces.

Think I should score the faces and use unibond?
..or should I clean with solvent and use TB3?

Thank you!

Smooth on doesn't have the dark glue line, which is really nice for glueing light woods. It's what I use.but with one of the woods a dark wood, the unibond will be good too.
Lots of people use the tb very successfully, and swear by it, and it is a very capable glue- I just prefer the gap filling glues, whilst using some scoring on the mating surfaces.
Just what I like to do.

I've used TB glues and Urac(not used Unibond yet) both with good results but when I'm making a highly stressed bow I will always go with the Urac if I have it.
