South American Bow wood
« on: January 27, 2014, 10:16:00 AM »
Hello dear friends,  I have a buddy who is spending 6 weeks in Columbia and who has offered to bring me a present.  I am sure that he is willing to ship me some wood.  If you were in my shoes what kind(s) would you ask for?
Maybe something exotic that I cant get at Lowes!
Thanks.

So far I have simply asked him to look for dense straight grained interesting looking woods.

To be honest, I'd probably not try to get too much shipped. When they ship wood here to the US it's exactly that ... by ship. And it's cheap to send an entire container of Ipe. It's expensive to ship one board.

I think in the long run it'd be cheaper to just have it shipped to you from inside the US already, but what do I really know ... just speculating.

Have him find you some native archery stuff.

Thanks all.  Great idea about the local native stuff.  I know that the Yanomamo make long bows out of some kind of hard palm wood, I will set him on the trail of that.  Thanks.
