Well I finally got my edge sander built.I changed the size from 6x89,to 6x108.I got the plans from PlansNow.com.I think you can get all the parts from McMaster Carr, except for the sanding belt.I got the sanding belt from Econoway Abrasives. The 6x89 would have worked but the 6x108 lets me get one whole limb on the belt at one time.30 inch platten compared to 39 1/2 inch platten. The plan calls for barrel nuts, you'll have better luck finding them if you look for dowel nuts or cross dowel nuts.If you change from 89 to 108 make the core parts and the sleeve parts 9 1/2 inchs longer.I had a motor from my 6x48 craftsman horizontal belt sander. It is 3450 RPM,if you have to buy one I would go with a 1725 RPM and still slow it down with pulleys.I used a 2 inch on the motor and a 5 inch on the drive pulley. It should be around 1380 RPM.It works great, little vibration, tracks great.I hope I gave enough information if you decide to build one.I have less than $400.00 in it.Will try to post pics.
