Crack in tip if wood-laminate bow, how should I repair this?
« on: April 02, 2014, 03:02:00 AM »
Hi people,
This is my first real bow, having only shot self-made stickbows.
It's a purchased second-hand, little used, tri-laminate recurve, with this crack at the bottom tip.
I am hesitant to shoot it until repaired, which I assume is possible due to the location of the crack.

Is this as simple as superglue and wrap/clamping?
I have some Titebond3 (though it might be too thick to get in there well) also, or am willing to buy whatever is needed since I want this done right.

What would you all recomend for the repair process? Quick fix vs. Proper fix?

Cheers guys

cant see the photo

without seeing it I'd say that usually a very fine crack can be filled with thin superglue.

The glue will wick in, then clamp th ecrack shut and let dry for a day or so.

Get pics posted so we can see the extent of the damage.

Yes, stick bows are real bows, but we can't really help with your cracked tip problem without a close up picture.

Cheers for looking. I have a picture there, not sure what the problem is.

After talking to the very helpful seller (it got damaged in transport), I've decided to try and take it to a local bowyer to ensure it is fixed as properly as possible.

So thanks anyway people.

(I didn't mean to imply stickbows aren't real, just that my attempts at making them were sub-standard, so far)
