3 Piece LB Lams
« on: April 06, 2014, 01:12:00 PM »
I thinking of building another 3 Piece Takedown Longbow. The one I've built I used a lam kit from Binghams. My question is can I use just two parallel lams?

No, or atleast it'll bend differently than your first bow.  I'd look up what binghams gives you in the lam kit and do the same taper, or change it if you're unsatisfied with how it bends.

Actually the Bingham's pronounced 3 pc longbow has a taper and a reverse taper and a parallel, making a parallel limb.

I know a couple guys who have made them with parallels with fine results.

Good luck and have fun!!

Two lams V. three will give you a twig more spring back off the form. Although not enough to matter. So I would go for it.

Woops! guess I should have looked up what binghams gives you in the lb pack haha.  Yeah, the only thing you'd be dealing with is whether or not you can fit the curves of your bow with a thicker lam, which probably wouldn't matter at all on a take down because you're not trying to make them fit around the riser.

I guess the only thing I see with 2 lams is making it bend over the flat on the wedge due to being thicker, probably won't be a prob, but do a dry run!

I've done it both ways. It will bend over the flat spot without a problem using the air hose. I use 70 psi.
