My really white whitewood bow
« on: June 07, 2014, 06:43:00 PM »
Just finished this one yesterday.  It's from a hard maple board backed with hickory, 68" NTN and 45#.  Had it all tillered and shot a couple hundred arrows thru it when I came across the birch bark.  Wish the picture of the back would have turned out clearer.  Daughter's camera battery was running low.  No stain, just finished  with poly.
This is my first try with maple and I like the wood.  It's 1 5/8" wide at the fades (the plan was 1 3/4" but my backing slid a bit when I glued it).  If I make another, I think I'll go a little wider yet.

Thanks guys!  I like shooting it, Mike.  Not the fastest, but very steady 'cuz of the length.  Very little hand shock and draws and releases smoothly.  Probably would have gotten a little more speed out of it had I gone wider and glued in more reflex.
Took a couple more pictures.

Sweet!   :bigsmyl:

That is a great looking bow. I really like that birch bark.

Thanks Darin and Jawge!  It's the longest bow that I've made and I like the extra length.  Always seems like there is another inch of draw in it when I anchor.
I've been to your website many times, Jawge.  It's a great resource and I learn something each time I'm there.

Fantastic bow and a great tiller. I haven't logged on in months, but I had to comment on your bow.

Thanks Pearl Drums!  I've been lurking and learning over on PA as well the last couple of months.  Also drooling a lot over the beautiful bows you and the others post on there.     :)
