Planning a new bow (All Done)
« on: June 13, 2014, 09:47:00 PM »
I'm planing on getting to go on my first elk hunt in 2015. One thing for certain there must be an elk bow. So there has been a lot of brainstorming. For me it is all part of the fun. As far as poundage I'm just not sure yet. For the riser and limbs this is what I have come up with. Bolivian rosewood with macasser ebony and red gum limb veneers. Just thought I'd share cause I can't wait to get started on it.

I can see your sketches on the wood. Is this a takedown?

I think the rosewood riser and ebony footing would look killer. Not sure I know what red gum looks like finished. That piece of lumber looks to have some nice grain though. I think it will be killer if it picks up some depth of color under the glass. Wipe some acetone on that gum and post another shot.

That will look sweet. Some light wood highlight lams around the flare will really make it pop!

Littleben it will be a takedown. It will be 62" somewhere between 50 - 60 pound.

Bigbob the red gum I have grows in the southern states. It's heartwood out of a sweet gum tree.

Those will make some really nice looking lams. I had no idea sweetgum looked like that cut.

I don't know if I will do a build along. Maybe I will try to post a pic every now and again. So far all the parts have been cut out. Time to get started sticking them together.    :bigsmyl:

Yeah can see now, far too spectacular to be the same red gum we've got. Should look deadly!
