50s recurve bow questions
« on: August 09, 2014, 09:05:00 PM »
I've been building longbows for about 15 years and am thinking of trying a 50s style recurve.  This would be 100% my design, without copying anything already on the market.  I'm sure at the end of the day, it's going to resemble everything else though.

Anyway, a few questions for those who have experience with this style of bow.

Assuming a riser that is 1 1/2" wide, cut to center, and total ntn length of 58"-60", about how long should the overall length be for riser?

Secondly, if I was trying to hit around a 50# @ 28" draw weight, what is a good starting point for total limb thickness?

Lastly, how many different laminations do you typically use?  Parallels? Tapers? Both?

All I'm trying to do with all these questions is speed up the trial/error time/expense.  And I guess I should also say, I'm a hobbyist and don't do this for a living.  Just a few bows each year to scratch my itch and to bring others into this world of addiction.

Thanks,
Randy

Thanks CW,  That sure seems thick to me, but it's great information nonetheless.
