Hunting bow for the year....
« on: August 28, 2014, 11:01:00 PM »
I haven't been great about posting up pics of all my "projects" the last couple years, but here is a few pics of the bow I think I'll take to the woods this year.   Osage selfbow, rawhide backed (just because...and I knifed through a growth ring on opposite edges, either side of that twisted notty section of riser).    This was the leftover piece of a log that gave us 4 real nice selfbows.  It had some twist, a lot of tight grain around it, and some challenge in following a ring.   I had just backed a yew bow with rawhide, and had some extra so I used it to cover the back in the tough areas.   Also, the "paint job" looked kinda cool, too.

64 inches nock to nock, mid-sixties for poundage at my draw.  Flipped the tips a bit and it adds some cast, plus straightened out the propeller.   Buff horn nock overlays.   A real nice shooter.

That is one cool, curvy bow.  Really like that pattern on the rawhide as well.  Nice!
It's hard to make a wooden bow which isn't beautiful, even if it's ugly.

Sweet bow, Mark! Good luck with it this year. Hope you get a big un.

Interesting looking stick, Mark with very nice tiller. Now, just waiting for the hero shot with your quarry.

Thanks guys.   This was one I really had few expectations with...just thought it would be cool to get a bow out of the "wrap-around-the-knot" section!

Yeah, the dog is my most enthusiastic shooting companion...sometimes too much so!

I'll try and post pics of some of the bows I've done the past couple years.   It seems I've been occupied mostly with using up scrap staves and remnants.  Hard for me to throw out Osage, so a lot of short bows, sinewed bows, and snaky stuff.

A guy...even one that has been building for a couple decades....learns a lot from working through problem or challenging pieces of wood, but what fun it is!

By the way....I emailed Dick Robertson that this bow was a "natural" Wolfer, with the offset handle and center shot sight window area.   Nature imitates art I guess!

Nice! Love the reverse riser-how did you go about that? The only one I've done popped a splinter after ~600 shots.
